THE payroll system used by mosques and madrasahs overseen by Singapore’s Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) was hacked and held for ransom, The Straits Times reported. The affected SmartHRMS human resources platform is supplied by Singapore-based software vendor Avelogic. MUIS confirmed that an incident involved an HR management system operated by Avelogic.
Avelogic’s latest cybersecurity incident notice, updated on 14 September, said suspicious threat-actor activity was first detected on 30 and 31 August. The notice did not identify the affected customers. Staff details may have been compromised, although the supplied report does not confirm which data was accessed or whether it was exfiltrated.
