San Joaquin County Superior Court concludes sensitive info leaked in data breach
According to DataBreaches[.]Net, the Superior Court of California for the County of San Joaquin announced on Friday afternoon that an “unauthorized person” gained access to the court’s computer network last year, with the breach including individuals’ sensitive information such as Social Security, driver’s licence and credit card numbers. The court is offering one year of identity protection and credit monitoring services to those affected.
It did not report how many files or individuals were involved, but noted that the unauthorised access occurred between 25 October and 30 October. The court also referenced connectivity issues across many phone and online services reported on 30 October 2024, which it attributed to a cybersecurity incident.
No group publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, though earlier in October 2024 the “Meow” threat actor(s) claimed responsibility for hitting the The Superior Court of California for the County of Sonoma and putting those data up for sale on the dark web; DataBreaches[.]Net does not know whether they were also responsible for the San Joaquin incident.
