Brightspeed Investigating Cyberattack
Brightspeed is investigating claims of a cyberattack after Crimson Collective boasted of breaching its systems, according to SecurityWeek. The hacking group said it exfiltrated personal information from over 1 million Brightspeed customers, with data including names, billing addresses, email addresses and phone numbers, as well as account status, payment details and service records. Brightspeed operates across 20 states and serves more than 1 million business and home users.
A Brightspeed spokesperson told SecurityWeek that the company is reviewing reports of a cybersecurity event and will inform customers, employees and authorities as it learns more. Crimson Collective has provided what it describes as proof of possession to several cybersecurity experts monitoring the dark web, and the group is known for previous activities such as an extortion attempt linked to Red Hat last year after breaching its GitLab instance.
Written by Ionut Arghire, the piece notes the context of the claim and the company’s stated seriousness about securing networks and protecting information.
