OPENAI announced this week that it is in the process of acquiring AI security company Promptfoo, a move that follows Promptfoo’s funding of more than $23 million and a reported $86 million valuation based on PitchBook data after an $18.4 million Series A round in July 2025. Promptfoo has built a platform that tests LLMs and AI agents, enabling developers to simulate adversarial attacks such as prompt injections, jailbreaks and sensitive data leaks within existing workflows.
OpenAI plans to integrate Promptfoo’s capabilities into its Frontier platform, with aims to add automated security testing, red-teaming, and enhanced reporting and traceability to development pipelines, while continuing to maintain Promptfoo’s open source CLI and library. The comments from Srinivas Narayanan, CTO of B2B Applications at OpenAI, emphasise that Promptfoo’s enterprise-scale security testing will be brought directly into Frontier. SecurityWeek notes that 426 AI-related M&A deals were tracked in 2025, including 13 involving AI companies. 11 March 2026.
