Former Accenture Employee Charged Over Cybersecurity Fraud
According to the Justice Department, Danielle Hillmer, 53, a former senior manager at a government contractor, has been charged over lying about a product’s compliance with Department of Defense requirements. The indictment alleges she concealed that her employer’s cloud platform did not implement the required security controls and attempted to influence audits by instructing others to do the same, between March 2020 and November 2021.
It says she hid that the platform did not comply with FedRAMP and the DoD’s Risk Management Framework and falsely represented that the necessary access controls, logging and monitoring were in place. Hillmer is also accused of submitting documents containing materially false information to obtain and maintain government contracts, while she was employed at Accenture and managed its cloud services products. The charges include wire fraud, major government fraud, and obstruction of a federal audit, and, if convicted, she faces decades in prison.
