ITRON disclosed it suffered a cybersecurity breach, according to an 8-K form filed to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The US‑based firm revealed its IT systems were breached by an unauthorized third‑party actor and activated its cybersecurity response plan immediately. Itron launched a comprehensive investigation with external advisers to assess, mitigate, remediate and contain the breach, and proactively notified law enforcement authorities.
It has since taken action to fully remediate and remove the unauthorized activity, with no subsequent unauthorized access observed within its corporate systems, and no unauthorized activity detected in the customer‑hosted portion of its systems; operations have continued unaffected in all material respects. Itron expects a significant portion of direct costs to be reimbursed by insurers, helping to limit the financial impact, and it is evaluating what legal filings and regulatory notifications may be required.
It notes that, at this stage, it does not believe the incident has had, or is reasonably likely to have, a material impact on the company.
