CTO New Year Resolutions for a More Secure 2026
According to Dark Reading, CTOs in 2026 are prioritising five core resolutions to boost security as they navigate AI, supply chains and post-quantum realities. The editorial highlights operationalising AI governance as a key step, defining what “secure to ship” looks like for AI features and enforcing repeatable controls and telemetry to ensure policy is applied consistently.
Another focus is building out MCP security controls, emphasising that MCP lacks built‑in security primitives and must be integrated with existing security mechanisms. Hardened build environments are also on the agenda, with attention to the Shai‑Hulud worm and the need to protect development pipelines, CI/CD tooling and AI coding agents.
There is a call to reduce friction between security and engineering by embedding automated security measures such as secure-by-default templates, CI checks and production guardrails, while fostering closer CTO–CISO collaboration. Finally, post‑quantum operational realities are recognised as urgent, with leadership urged to align interoperability and performance to achieve seamless quantum‑safe encryption across ecosystems.
