Palo Alto Networks Acknowledges SquareX Research on Limitations of SWGs Against Last Mile Reassembly Attacks

Palo Alto Networks has publicly recognised SquareX’s research on the limitations of Secure Web Gateways (SWGs) against Last Mile Reassembly attacks, marking a watershed moment for browser‑native security. According to Palo Alto Networks’ press release, the attack is described as encrypted, evasive and that these attacks assemble inside the browser to bypass traditional SWGs.

SquareX first disclosed Last Mile Reassembly attacks at DEF CON 32 last year, warning of more than 20 techniques that can bypass SASE/SSE solutions and smuggle malware through the browser. The release notes that the browser is becoming the new operating system for the enterprise, emphasising that securing it is not optional.

This acknowledgment comes after two weeks during which no vendor had publicly warned customers about the vulnerability, and it positions SquareX’s research as a driver for broader industry recognition of the need for browser‑native defence mechanisms.
