VirusTotal Introduces Simplified Platform Access and New Contributor Model

VirusTotal has announced a major update to simplify platform access and introduce a new Contributor Tier to recognise researchers who contribute detections and rules. According to the article, the changes aim to make the platform easier to use for individuals while ensuring engine partners receive priority support and advanced features.

The new pricing structure features four tiers, with the Community Tier remaining free for individual researchers, educators and academics, and a Lite Tier offering advanced search, YARA rule hunting, private API access, and file downloads for small teams at a starting price of five thousand dollars per year for low-volume API usage.

A brand new Contributor Tier will provide contributors with free access to blindspot feeds, discounts based on contribution levels, and early access to upcoming features, and is free upon acceptance. Large organisations can opt for the Duet Tier, which includes the complete feature set and the highest API quotas, with pricing customised based on affiliates and contribution levels, as VirusTotal evolves under the Google Threat Intelligence umbrella.
