Teens arrested by Dutch police reportedly suspected of spying for Russia
Two teenagers, both aged 17, were arrested in the Netherlands on suspicion of espionage allegedly on behalf of pro-Russian hackers. One boy has been remanded in custody, while the other has been released on home bail. Dutch prosecution service spokesperson Brechtje van de Moosdijk said the arrests related to laws on state-sponsored interference, with further details not provided due to the suspects’ age and the ongoing investigation, according to The Record.
The father of one of the boys told De Telegraaf that the youths were recruited via Telegram and had been accused of carrying a “wifi-sniffer” along a route past buildings in The Hague, including Europol and Eurojust headquarters and several embassies. The NL Times coverage includes the father’s remarks, highlighting the parents’ concerns as the investigation continues.
