Spanish Airline Iberia Notifies Customers of Data Breach
Iberia, the Spanish flag carrier, has informed customers of a data breach involving the compromise of personal information, including names, email addresses, and frequent flyer numbers, due to a hack of one of its suppliers. No passwords or full credit card data were affected. The airline has enhanced account security by requiring verification codes for email changes and has reported the incident to law enforcement.
The breach's timing coincides with a hacker's claim of stealing 77 gigabytes of data from Iberia, including sensitive technical documents, and attempting to sell it for $150,000. Iberia, part of the International Airlines Group, operates an all-Airbus fleet to 130 destinations.
