AUTHORITIES in the Netherlands dismantled a massive botnet consisting of over 17 million devices, managed via 200 servers. This operation was initiated following a report from a security researcher. The botnet was taken offline after being linked to ASOCKS, a Russian company providing residential proxy services often used for criminal activities such as DDoS attacks and phishing. The Dutch police seized the botnet servers, emphasizing the rise of concerns regarding residential proxies in digital security.
Users are advised to install software updates promptly and research applications before installation to prevent their devices from being hijacked into botnets.
