OpenAI Rolls Out Group Chat Globally: Collaborate with up to 20 People in ChatGPT
OpenAI began limited testing of ChatGPT’s group chat feature last week, and after a short trial period the function has now been rolled out globally to all users, according to OpenAI. The group chat feature allows users to create shared conversation spaces and invite friends, family members, or colleagues to join, with a maximum capacity of twenty people.
Group chats are placed in a clearly marked section of the sidebar and are separate from personal conversations, ensuring that a user’s personal ChatGPT memory is not shared with anyone in the group. The creator can share an invite link, and anyone with the link may in turn invite additional participants.
OpenAI notes that group chats can be used for planning, collaboration on projects, or consolidating shared articles and notes, and that they are available to all ChatGPT users—including those on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. Because group chats are primarily intended for real-life acquaintances, users are advised not to share sensitive information in such settings.
