Ambient and autonomous security for the agentic era
According to Microsoft Security Blog, Microsoft Ignite 2025 showcased an ambient and autonomous security approach designed to protect AI agents and apps across platforms, clouds and devices as humans and agents push innovation. The article notes that more than 1.5 million customers already use the new solutions across Defender, Entra, Intune, Purview and Sentinel, helping secure every layer of the AI stack.
It highlights Microsoft Agent 365 as the control plane for AI agents, offering observability, governance and the ability to detect shadow agents, with security built in from Defender, Entra and Purview. Other announcements included Foundry Control Plane to simplify building and securing agent fleets, and the Security Dashboard for AI to centralise discovery, protection and governance of AI estate signals.
The piece also references Defender’s predictive shielding, which uses graph insights and threat intelligence from 100 trillion signals daily to pre-empt attacker movement, along with Baseline Security Mode now generally available to mitigate legacy risks. It ends by noting that Security Copilot will be included for all Microsoft 365 E5 customers, with rollout beginning immediately for those on E5.
