Windows 11 25H2 Update Is Here: What’s New?

The Windows 11 2025 annual update, known as version 25H2, is here and is being rolled out to the Windows Insider Release Preview channel for early testing, with the October release still anticipated. Classified as a minor update, 25H2 is delivered as an enablement package on top of 24H2, activating new features without major changes and offering relatively modest overall improvements.

According to Microsoft, Release Preview users can go to Windows Update and click Check for Updates, where a banner will indicate that version 25H2 is available for download and installation. Unlike 24H2, 25H2 is distributed as an enablement package and shares the same servicing branch, so both versions will eventually receive identical features.

The update will remove certain legacy components, including the discontinuation of PowerShell 2.0 support and the deprecation of the Windows Management Instrumentation Command Line tool, while admins gain the ability to uninstall more preinstalled apps on enterprise devices via Group Policy or MDM CSP.

Commercial customers will access it through Windows Update for Business and WSUS, with Azure hosting allowing enterprise testing ahead of release and ISO images published next week to enable upgrading via ISO installation.
