ACCORDING to SecurityWeek, Zscaler has acquired browser security firm SquareX for an undisclosed sum, with the deal closing on 5 February 2026. SquareX markets a Browser Detection and Response (BDR) solution that converts any web browser into an enterprise‑grade secure browser, delivering enterprise features without the need for a dedicated enterprise browser.
The company claims its browser extension can manage threats such as malicious extensions, phishing, genAI data leakage, and insider threats directly within the browser environment, reducing the enterprise attack surface without hampering user experience. Zscaler says the integration will extend security to unmanaged devices, enabling organisations to secure users in their preferred browser—such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge—without deploying a full agent or relying on a separate third‑party browser. SquareX raised $20 million in a Series A round led by SYN Ventures in April 2025.
