Upwind raises $400 million as valuation climbs to $3.8 billion
Upwind Security has announced a 400 million dollar Series C funding round, valuing the San Francisco-based cybersecurity platform at 3.8 billion dollars. The capital comes nine months after a 250 million dollar funding round that valued the company at 1.5 billion dollars, bringing the total raised to over 800 million dollars. The round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Canapi Ventures and existing investors including TCV, Greylock Partners, and Salesforce Ventures.
Upwind positions its runtime-native cloud security platform as providing visibility into networks, APIs and data flows, aiming to help security, development and DevOps teams identify exposures, remediate risks proactively and detect attacks in real time. The company notes it counts organisations such as Siemens, Roku and Nubank among its users.
The Information reported that Datadog had offered nearly 4 billion dollars to acquire Upwind, though Israeli tech publication Calcalist questioned the report, indicating that such an offer had not been made.
The announcement follows market chatter of acquisition interest and confirms the new funding with Upwind reiterating its headquarters in San Francisco and its founder, Amiram Shachar, best known for previously founding Spot[.]io. The article attributes the acquisition-interest claim to The Information, while CT Tech is cited as disputing the Datadog bid.
