QUEST Diagnostics has disclosed a cyber incident affecting its Quanum Lab Services Manager, a platform used by some clients to place test orders and access results. In a regulatory filing, the company said it learned of unauthorized access to this system this week and that the breach potentially involved certain patient records.

Quest noted that the full scope and specifics of the affected records remain under investigation, and that it has engaged external cybersecurity experts to assist and has notified federal law enforcement.

The firm emphasised that it does not yet know how many patients are affected or which particular records were accessed. It stressed that the investigation is ongoing, and it is coordinating with customers and authorities as it works to determine the extent of the breach.

Quest Diagnostics has a history of data incidents, including a 2016 breach affecting about 34,000 individuals and a separate 2019 compromise involving about 11.9 million Quest patients, though officials say the current incident is not related to the PHP vulnerability wave that has prompted IT outages elsewhere. The company’s public statements indicate a measured response, with ongoing forensics and collaboration with third-party security experts as they assess impact and remediation steps.
