Apple’s Secret Weapon: The ChatGPT-Like “Veritas” Tool That’s Helping Build a Next-Gen Siri
According to Bloomberg, Apple is internally developing a tool codenamed “Veritas” to test the performance of the latest version of Siri, a ChatGPT-like system intended solely for internal use. The tool functions as a platform for employees to simulate interactions and provide feedback, rather than a consumer-facing product.
Through Veritas, Siri is expected to demonstrate more personalised capabilities, such as retrieving emails and messages stored on a user’s device or carrying out advanced app functions like photo editing. The disclosure suggests Apple is using Veritas as a testing ground to evaluate whether a chatbot-style interface has genuine long-term value. The reporting notes this work aligns with expectations set at WWDC 2024 for a “next-generation Siri,” despite updates announced in March that were later delayed.
Bloomberg also indicates Apple has considered partnerships with OpenAI or Anthropic, with more recent indications favouring collaboration with Google, and that Apple is integrating Gemini models to fill current gaps.
