Just days before its data might be leaked, Qantas Airways obtained a permanent injunction
Qantas Airways secured a permanent injunction to stop publication of data stolen in a cyberattack, just days before the information might be leaked. The leak site listing by Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters claimed 153 GB of Qantas data, comprising over 5 million records with personally identifiable information. The data types detailed include full names, email addresses, phone numbers, residence addresses, dates of birth and Frequent Flyer numbers.
The airline had previously obtained an interim injunction in the NSW Supreme Court, aimed at preventing access to or release of the compromised data. On Thursday, Justice Francois Kunc made the temporary injunction permanent and also imposed a six-month non-publication order over the names of the solicitors and counsel involved.
DataBreaches notes the injunction applies to those covered by the NSW court order and that the site’s data, including sample records, remain subject to privacy considerations, while the outlet itself maintains its reporting within applicable law.
