Verizon: Mobile Blindspot Leads to Needless Data Breaches
Verizon: Mobile Blindspot Leads to Needless Data Breaches reports that enterprise mobile security risk is rising as employees rely more on personal devices for work, yet organisations are slow to adopt protections. According to Verizon Business' 2025 MSI, eight categories of mobile security best practices meaningfully cut risk, with organisations that implement all eight being significantly less likely to suffer breaches that cause downtime (24% to 46%) or major repercussions (12% vs 63%).
Verizon notes that in 2025, 70% of mobile cyberattacks reported in the MSI affected personal phones rather than work devices. Smishing, driven by text messages, is currently more effective for attackers than email phishing, a view reinforced by Chris Novak, Verizon Business's vice president of global cybersecurity solutions.
The report also highlights that 80% of organisations surveyed faced smishing attempts and 80% tested their employees with smishing simulations, underscoring a widespread gap between mobile risk and protective measures.
