ChatGPT tops list of brands faked in phishing billing notices

A recent Check Point study revealed that OpenAI's ChatGPT is now among the top 10 most impersonated brands in phishing attacks, with the first instance being a phishing email that mimicked a ChatGPT billing notice. Microsoft continues to lead as the most impersonated brand, constituting 23% of phishing attempts, followed by LinkedIn, Google, Apple, and Amazon.

The report highlights various phishing tactics and emphasizes the importance of proactive measures to prevent such attacks, including AI-powered detection systems and consolidated email security. The trend suggests that as AI tools become commonplace, they will increasingly attract cybercriminals.
