Here's What Cloud Security's Future Holds for the Year Ahead
Cloud service providers are increasingly aiming to be the platform of choice for AI workloads, with recent research suggesting 99% of organisations currently use or plan to use cloud services for AI, and 74% of organisations expecting to use CSP security products alongside third-party options. The shared responsibility model remains central, with 95% agreeing that security in the cloud is a collaborative effort between CSPs and customers, and 93% noting that responsibility varies across CSPs.
The report also highlights that 67% of organisations expect CSP security products to be optimised for CSP features, while many will still turn to third-party solutions if they offer richer capabilities across multiple cloud and on-premises environments. As AI adoption accelerates, analysts predict continued commoditisation of security features within cloud offerings, plus acquisitions to broaden security capabilities and new agentic AI offerings for testing, monitoring and response.
According to Omdia by informaTechTarget, 8 January 2026 marks a year in which security teams must balance rapid AI-driven development with vigilant risk mitigation, including concerns around software supply chains, non-human identities and AI-powered attack surfaces.
