HP laptop users have reported boot failures after installing Windows 11 update KB5121003. According to user feedback cited by SecurityOnline, affected systems become stuck at the HP logo during the restart stage. Windows then enters repair, removes the update and rolls back the installation. Reinstalling KB5121003 manually can produce the same result, while automatic updates may leave an unattended laptop stuck at the boot screen. The report attributes the problem to a compatibility conflict between the update and HP BIOS firmware, and says HP has confirmed the connection.
HP’s temporary recovery procedure is to force the laptop off, power it on and repeatedly tap F10 to open BIOS setup, press F9 to restore default BIOS settings, then press F10 to save and exit. This may remove customised settings, including hardware virtualisation, fTPM, PXE and other boot options, which users may need to configure again afterwards.
HP has released BIOS firmware update F.07 Rev.A, supplied as sp174502.exe, to address the issue. Its changelog says the update improves system stability when Windows Update runs. The firmware was released on 4 September, and HP laptop users are advised to install it from HP’s official drivers and downloads page before attempting to install KB5121003.
