Marquis data breach impacted more than 780,000 individuals

Marquis, a Texas-based fintech and software firm, disclosed that hackers breached its systems and stole personal and financial data, impacting more than 780,000 individuals. The data exposed included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and taxpayer identification numbers, as well as card numbers. Marquis detected the ransomware activity on 14 August 2025, with access traced to an unauthorised entry through its SonicWall firewall.

The firm launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts and notified federal authorities, filing data breach notices with attorney generals in several US states. According to Maine Attorney General’s Office, the incident involved an unauthorized third party accessing Marquis’ network via the SonicWall firewall and potentially acquiring certain files.

Marquis is now notifying affected customers and offering free credit monitoring and identity theft protection, though it has reported no evidence of misuse of the information to date.
