Europol and partners shut down ‘Cryptomixer’
From November 24 to 28, 2025, Europol supported a law enforcement operation in Zurich, Switzerland, targeting the illegal cryptocurrency mixing service 'Cryptomixer', suspected of facilitating cybercrime and money laundering. The operation led to the seizure of three servers, the cryptomixer.io domain, over 12 terabytes of data, and more than EUR 25 million in Bitcoin. Cryptomixer, operational since 2016, was used by cybercriminals to obscure the origins of illicit funds, mixing over EUR 1.3 billion in Bitcoin.
Europol coordinated the operation, providing crucial support and facilitating information exchange among participating countries, including Germany and Switzerland, and agencies like Eurojust. The operation is part of Europol's ongoing efforts to combat organized crime through initiatives like EMPACT.
