Nomani Investment Scam Surges 62% Using AI Deepfake Ads on Social Media

Nomani Investment Scam has surged by 62% according to data from ESET, with campaigns expanding beyond Facebook to YouTube. ESET said it blocked over 64,000 unique URLs associated with the threat this year, and most detections originated from Czechia, Japan, Slovakia, Spain and Poland. The scam was first documented by ESET in December 2024 as leveraging social media malvertising, company-branded posts and AI-powered video testimonials to deceive users into investing in non-existent products.

Victims are asked to pay additional fees or provide more personal information, such as ID and credit card details, as part of the fraud, and attackers have used Europol- and INTERPOL-related lures on social media to illicitly recover funds. ESET noted that deepfakes are becoming more realistic, with higher resolution, less unnatural movement and improved AV sync, to increase credibility.

The number of detections in the second half of 2025 declined compared with the first half, suggesting attackers are revamping tactics amid heavier law-enforcement activity, according to Reuters.
