NVIDIA and Intel Form Historic Partnership to Redefine Computing
On 19 September 2025, NVIDIA announced a deep strategic partnership with Intel following substantial moves in the ownership and collaboration space, including the U.S. government becoming Intel’s largest shareholder with an $8.9 billion investment. The deal sees NVIDIA acquire Intel shares worth $5 billion at $23.28 per share, subject to regulatory approval, and centers on leveraging NVLink to integrate Intel’s x86 CPUs with NVIDIA’s GPUs and AI chips for enhanced heterogeneous computing.
Under the partnership, Intel will manufacture customized x86 CPUs incorporating NVIDIA GPUs, while also producing x86 system-on-chips equipped with embedded RTX GPU dies to power next-generation high-performance PCs. Analysts suggest the arrangement could shift consumer PC design toward highly integrated “CPU+GPU” SoCs, offering improved thermals and energy efficiency, while potentially affecting Intel’s own integrated graphics research.
NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang and Intel’s Lip-Bu Tan described the collaboration as a way to meet growing computing demands, with the broader aim of boosting capacity across data centres and personal computing markets. The agreement also notes that NVIDIA could better utilise Intel’s foundry resources to meet demand as other foundries operate at high load.
