THE FBI has issued a warning regarding an increase in deepfake videos being used by scammers to impersonate leadership from the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). These videos, combined with spoofed IC3 websites, aim to defraud previous victims by making the scams appear more legitimate. Notably, scammers use AI-generated videos on social media to encourage filing complaints on fake portals that harvest personal data.
The FBI emphasizes that IC3 does not operate on social media and advises users to directly access its official website and be cautious of any communications requiring payment or sensitive information.
