Goldman Sachs Says Some Clients’ Data May Have Been Exposed in Law Firm Data Breach

Goldman Sachs said that data from some of its alternative investment funds may have been exposed in a breach at Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP, the law firm serving as outside counsel to many of its funds. In a December 19 letter, Goldman noted it had been informed of a “cybersecurity incident” and was working with Fried Frank to understand whether its data or its clients’ data may have been exposed.

The letter was included in a proposed class action filed on Wednesday against Fried Frank by Andrew Sacks, an investor in Goldman’s Petershill Private Equity Seeding II Offshore Fund. Goldman Sachs’ spokesperson insisted that its own systems were not impacted and remain secure.
