Raspberry Pi Price Hike: AI Boom Forces Price Increases on Pi 4 and Pi 5 Models
Raspberry Pi has announced immediate price increases for select Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 models, driven by a global surge in AI infrastructure and a squeeze on memory supply, with adjustments ranging from $5 to $25. In an official blog post, Eben Upton explained that the pricing pressure on memory stems from intensified competition from AI builders, but he described the rise as temporary and said prices are expected to roll back once the market stabilises.
According to the published pricing list, the Raspberry Pi 5 16GB will rise from $120 to $145, the 8GB version from $80 to $95, and the Raspberry Pi 4 4GB and 8GB see increases of $5 and $10 respectively; the Compute Module 5 16GB has increased by $20 and now starts at $140. The company also launched a new entry-level Raspberry Pi 5 model with 1GB RAM at $45, marketed as an affordable gateway into the Pi 5 line-up. According to Raspberry Pi, the disruption is linked to high memory demand from AI applications and may be temporary while production capacity adjusts.
