Apple Eyes Intel Foundry for M-Series Chips on 18A Node by 2027

Apple is set to certify its entry-level M-series chips using Intel's 18A process, with mass production expected to start in Q2 or Q3 of 2027. This marks Intel's return to Apple's supply chain, which has primarily relied on TSMC for chip production. The M-series chips are used in devices like the MacBook Air and iPad Pro, with combined shipments reaching around 20 million units in 2025. Intel's foundry services have secured contracts, including producing Microsoft’s Maia 2 AI processors.

Although this partnership is beneficial for Intel, it is not expected to significantly impact TSMC's revenue or market position. Intel's CEO has previously indicated that the company might abandon its foundry ambitions without sufficient clients, but Apple's involvement ensures the foundry business remains viable for now.
