Confidence in ransomware recovery is high but actual success rates remain low

A new study from OpenText of nearly 1,800 global IT and security leaders shows a false sense of confidence in ransomware readiness, with 95 percent saying they’re confident in their ransomware recovery, yet only 15 percent of those attacked have fully recovered their data.

The findings highlight growing gaps between preparation and performance amid a changing threat landscape, including new attack methods, weak governance, and supply chain vulnerabilities, which are particularly acute for SMBs with fewer formal AI policies. According to OpenText, organisations are right to be confident in their security progress but cannot afford complacency, as AI fuels productivity while heightening risk through insufficient governance and its expanding use in attacks.

Muhi Majzoub, executive vice president, security products at OpenText, notes the need to manage information securely and intelligently to build resilience in organisations of any size. The report is part of the OpenText Cybersecurity 2025 Global Ransomware Survey: Rising Confidence Meets a Growing AI Threat and was discussed in coverage published on 24 October 2025.
