VirtualBox 7.2.2 Update Released with Fix for Guest GUI Crashes

Oracle has released VirtualBox 7.2.2, a maintenance update that tackles multiple GUI crashes and stability issues across Windows, Linux and macOS platforms. Released on 10 September 2025, the update notably fixes VBox Manager crashes when virtual machines contain numerous snapshots, crashes during error notifications, and crashes when removing all VMs from the VM list, while Linux users benefit from fixes for startup freezes and errors when adding new VMs.

The release also addresses layout bugs tied to overly strict size constraints and improves support for ARM hosts, including reduced idle CPU usage and startup fixes for Windows ARM and macOS ARM guest scenarios, with networking problems in NAT networks corrected. An experimental e1000 adapter type (82583V) is introduced requiring the ICH9 chipset, and DNS handling issues where nameservers in the 127/8 range could be passed to guests have been resolved.

USB pass-through over USB/IP is corrected and virtual USB webcam support is added to the open-source base package, with Guest Additions and Linux kernel compatibility updates for versions 6.16 and 6.17.
