Microsoft Azure Experiences Global Outage Disrupting Cloud Services Worldwide
Microsoft Azure suffered a significant, globally felt outage that began around 07:40 UTC when Azure Front Door, the platform’s CDN, lost about 30 percent of its capacity, according to CSN. The disruption left many customers unable to reach cloud resources, with administrators locked out of configuration tools and dashboards and users facing frequent connection failures.
Regions most affected included North Europe, West Europe, France Central, South Africa West, and South Africa North, where websites, mobile back ends, and APIs experienced intermittent interruptions and related service degradation. Engineers rolled out temporary traffic reroutes to blunt the impact, and by 10:14 UTC Microsoft said it had ruled out recent software deployments as the trigger, pointing to a deeper infrastructure issue.
The company pledged further updates hourly and offered targeted private engagement to affected customers, while also promising a post‑mortem to detail root‑cause findings and proposed mitigations.
