Capita probed again as pension data breach hits retirees

CAPITA is under investigation after admitting its second data breach in three years, according to Government. Capita, which runs the Civil Service Pension Scheme, confirmed that up to 138 retirees received the wrong annual statement or had theirs accessed by other scheme members during a breach in March.

The firm has faced repeated criticism from MPs and trade unions after failing to pay thousands of pensions on time since last December, with government departments issuing £4m in crisis loans to retirees as a result. Capita was fined £14m by the Information Commissioner’s Office last year after hackers stole more than six million private records in a 2023 cyber attack. This comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Capita’s handling of pensions for public sector workers.
