THE Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office reported a significant data breach involving unauthorized access to over 600,000 records managed by the Centre of Registers. The breach was facilitated through the misuse of login credentials from authorized institutions, likely originating from a foreign country. Although the chief of the Centre, Adrijus Jusas, resigned, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė stated that the government will not resign over the incident.

Criticism arose regarding the government's delayed public alert about the breach, with the Centre first learning of it in April. Investigators identified that the systems were accessed using compromised accounts of Migration Department employees. Although there is speculation about Russian involvement, no group has claimed responsibility.
