The 5-Gigawatt Power Play: NVIDIA Pumps $2B Into CoreWeave to Build the Future of AI Factories

ON 27 January 2026, NVIDIA announced a strategic investment of $2 billion into CoreWeave to bolster their collaboration in building AI factories. The partners aim to create a monumental 5GW AI Factory ecosystem by 2030, integrating NVIDIA’s Rubin computing platform.

NVIDIA acquired Class A common shares of CoreWeave at $87.20 per share, with CoreWeave leveraging NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technologies to architect and operate the factories, while NVIDIA offers expertise in land development and power grid orchestration. According to CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator, the AI landscape is moving from experimental to full-scale production, underscoring the need for high‑performance, scalable infrastructure.

The deal also involves deployment of multiple generations of NVIDIA infrastructure—including Rubin, Vera CPUs, and BlueField systems—onto CoreWeave’s computational framework to test and validate AI-native software and reference architectures such as SUNK and CoreWeave Mission Control. CoreWeave, which debuted on the Nasdaq in March last year, has previously announced a $22.4 billion OpenAI agreement, cementing its role in the AI compute leasing market.
