Self-Hosting No Longer Free: GitHub Introduces New $0.002/Min Platform Fee for Actions
GitHub has announced a new pricing change for its Actions service, introducing a platform fee of USD 0.002 per minute. The change applies regardless of whether developers use GitHub-hosted runners or their own infrastructure, and it will raise operating costs for some users. GitHub notes that Actions will remain free for public repositories and that pricing for enterprise servers is unaffected.
To offset the new charges, the company has also reduced runner prices in an effort to entice developers back to GitHub’s own infrastructure. The article, dated 18 December 2025, explains that the shift aims to create a direct revenue stream as usage grows and to address revenue pressures and churn affecting CI workloads.
