Toys “R” Us Canada customers notified of breach of personal information

Toys “R” Us Canada has notified customers of a data breach it says may have compromised their personal information, in an email sent to shoppers on Thursday morning. The retailer says it learned on 30 July that someone had posted information it claimed to have stolen from its databases on the “unindexed Internet,” and it remains unclear whether this refers to the deep web or the dark web.

No group has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack as of publication, and Toys ‘R’ Us Canada did not disclose whether there was any ransom demand. Read more at Vancouver City News, according to Vancouver City News. The story is being publicly discussed in DataBreaches[.]Net and related coverage notes the company did not immediately respond to comment or explain why notification took place when it did.
