INTERPOL Arrests 1,462 Suspects in Global Cybercrime Crackdown

INTERPOL announced a coordinated global crackdown, Operation Serengeti III, which ran from 29 June to 31 August 2026. The operation disrupted 10,909 malicious networks and led to the arrest of 1,462 suspects across 21 countries, including the United States and several African nations. Authorities identified 65,929 victims targeted by cybercriminal groups, with financial investigations linking activity to losses in excess of 385 million USD. The operation also recovered more than 105 million USD in illicit funds.

Among the key takeaways, INTERPOL highlighted several strands of activity: the disruption of two cross-border fraud rings and the arrest of 365 foreign nationals in Uganda connected to online investment and pension fraud schemes spanning Asia; the dismantling of two illegal cryptocurrency mining operations in Angola, the seizure of 2,000 mining devices and six power

transformation stations valued at over 1 million USD; the arrest of individuals in Nigeria tied to phishing, business email compromise and large-scale credential harvesting; and the arrest of suspects in the Republic of Congo linked to a cybercrime operation.

Private-sector partners such as Group-IB contributed threat intelligence on phishing kits and botnets. INTERPOL’s leadership stressed that international cooperation remains a critical tool for disrupting networks, recovering assets, and protecting communities from online crime.
