VMware Releases Workstation & Fusion 25H2 With Enhanced Features and OS Support
According to VMware, the latest releases of Workstation 25H2 and Fusion 25H2 bring a calendar-based versioning approach and a bundle of enhancements for automation, performance and OS support, with the news publicised on 17 October 2025. The new 25H2 format replaces the old numbering and clearly indicates the release year and half-year period, helping users track upgrades more easily.
A key feature is the dictTool command-line utility, designed to inspect and edit VMware configuration files to aid advanced automation. Hardware improvements include USB 3.2 support for faster data transfers and Hardware Version 22 to enable virtual machines to utilise newer hardware capabilities, alongside Hyper-V/WHP detection to show the VM’s running mode.
The update expands CPU compatibility to Intel Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake and Meteor Lake, and supports a broad set of guest OSes such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10, Fedora 42, Debian 13, Oracle Linux 10 and openSUSE Leap 16.0, with host OS support extending to RHEL 10, Fedora 42 and Debian 13 for Workstation and macOS Tahoe on Fusion.
