Cyber-Attack On Bectu’s Parent Union Sparks UK National Security Concerns

The cyber-attack on Prospect, the parent union of the film and TV group Bectu, has sparked fears that it could have compromised information pertaining to the UK’s national security, according to Deadline. The majority of Prospect’s 150,000 members were reportedly breached during an “IT security incident” in June. The union represents members in sensitive professions, including at the Ministry of Defence and military suppliers, and Prospect also has civil servant members across a variety of government departments.

Data accessed during the breach included bank details, contact details, and “personal identifiers” such as birth dates and protected characteristics. The report notes that the attack raises national security concerns for the UK, given the nature of the roles held by some members.
