Balancer DeFi Platform Hit by Major Exploit Resulting in $100M+ in Losses

The Balancer DeFi platform was hit by a major exploit targeting Balancer’s V2 Composable Stable Pools, with losses reportedly exceeding $100 million. The incident highlights ongoing security challenges within the DeFi sector and the particular vulnerability of pools that include a pause window. Balancer moved quickly to halt eligible pools to minimise further damage and is coordinating with security researchers, while other products on the platform, including upgraded V3 pools, remain unaffected.

The company notes that Balancer has undergone audits by top security firms and maintains active bug bounty programmes to encourage vulnerability disclosure. Balancer also warned users to disregard unsolicited communications and phishing attempts and to rely solely on its official channels, specifically the official X account and Discord server, for updates.

A detailed post-mortem and full findings will be published once forensic analysis is complete, with law enforcement and legal advisors involved and recovery efforts continuing where possible.
