Anthropic Launches Claude AI for Healthcare with Secure Health Record Access
Anthropic has launched Claude AI for Healthcare, a new Claude platform feature set that lets U.S. subscribers of Claude Pro and Max opt to give Claude secure access to their lab results and health records by connecting to HealthEx and Function, with Apple Health and Android Health Connect integrations rolling out later this week.
When connected, Claude can summarise users’ medical history, explain test results in plain language, detect patterns across fitness and health metrics, and prepare questions for appointments, according to Anthropic. The integrations are private by design, and users can explicitly choose what to share with Claude and disconnect or edit Claude’s permissions at any time, with health data not used to train its models.
The expansion comes amid scrutiny of AI guidance, and Anthropic notes in its Acceptable Use Policy that a qualified professional must review generated outputs in high-risk healthcare use cases prior to dissemination or finalisation. This follows OpenAI’s introduction of ChatGPT Health, illustrating a broader shift toward AI-assisted, doctor‑patient conversations while emphasising that these tools are not substitutes for professional medical advice.
