How Malwarebytes stops the ransomware attack that most security software can’t see
According to Malwarebytes Core Technology, Malwarebytes stops ransomware by using multiple defensive layers, including AI-based analysis, machine learning models, signature detection, runtime sandboxing, exploit mitigation, and web protection, with the Anti-Ransomware behavioural layer monitoring actual file encryption in real time.
The article explains that traditional protection can fail when ransomware operates across devices on a network, encrypting remote files while the compromised device lacks visible malicious activity.
To address this, Malwarebytes describes a two-part protection architecture: Part 1 detects local processes attacking remote files by tracking both local and network activity and blocking the malicious program in real time; Part 2 detects remote-to-local attacks by tracking network connections and blocking the specific connection when suspicious behaviour is observed.
It notes that the filtering and a time-to-live indicator system help prevent false positives from legitimate tools like backups or file synchronisation. The approach is designed to be precise, blocking only the malicious connection rather than all activity from the device, and to maintain system performance. The piece was posted on 12 November 2025.
