Beer Maker Asahi Shuts Down Production Due to Cyberattack

Asahi Group Holdings has halted production at its domestic factories in Japan after a cyberattack struck on Monday, forcing the beer and beverage giant to halt operations across its 30 plants. The company, known for brands such as Asahi Super Dry Beer, Nikka Whisky, and Mitsuya Cider, has yet to resume operations and, according to Reuters, is still assessing whether all factories have completely stopped production.

A company spokesperson said on Tuesday that production remains offline and there is currently no clear estimate for when operations will be restored. The disruption has affected not only production but also other critical functions such as order processing, shipping, and call centre operations within Asahi’s group companies in Japan.

So far, there is no evidence that personal information was leaked, and the firm is continuing to investigate the full scope and potential damage while evaluating the impact on product availability domestically and internationally.
