Pay to Post: Meta Tests 2-Link Monthly Limit for Unverified Facebook Creators
Reports indicate Meta is quietly testing a policy that limits unverified Facebook creators to two external links per month unless they subscribe to Meta’s blue-check verification, a move described as a paid feature for link sharing. The test was first uncovered by Matt Navarra, who shared screenshots of the notification, and several creators using Facebook’s Professional Mode have since reported alerts stating that without paid verification they will be limited to two organic posts containing links each month.
In practice, creators directing followers to YouTube channels, blog posts, podcasts, or online stores could see posts blocked once they exceed the two-link threshold unless they pay. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the existence of the test, emphasising it is a limited experiment aimed primarily at creators and pages using Professional Mode, while traditional news publishers are excluded for now.
Meta’s verification subscription currently starts at $14.99 per month, and the company says the goal is to assess whether enhanced link-posting capabilities can deliver value to verified subscribers and potentially monetise traffic. The policy shift reflects broader tensions around traffic leakage, monetisation, and the tolls of maintaining a social presence on Facebook.
