Coinbase Discloses Arrest Of Former Customer Agent Over Data Breach — Report

According to Bloomberg, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced that a former Coinbase customer service agent has been arrested in India in connection with a data breach that occurred earlier in the year. The arrest follows claims that hackers bribed customer service representatives or contractors to gain access to user information at the San Francisco-based exchange.

The report notes that, in May, Coinbase revealed that contractors or company employees outside the firm were involved in stealing sensitive user data, with several employees of outsourcing firm TaskUs reportedly laid off after the incident. The article frames this as another insider threat linked to the breach. The disclosure appeared in a Bloomberg report dated 26 December 2025, and DataBreaches[.]Net attributed the information to that source.
