X Warns Users With Security Keys to Re-Enroll Before November 10 to Avoid Lockouts
X has urged users who have enrolled for two-factor authentication with passkeys or hardware security keys, such as Yubikeys, to re-enrol their key by 10 November 2025 to avoid lockouts. After that date, the company says, if you haven’t re-enrolled a security key, your account will be locked until you re-enrol, choose a different 2FA method, or elect not to use 2FA (though 2FA is recommended to protect accounts), according to Safety.
The move forms part of X’s effort to retire the twitter[.]com domain, with re-enrolment intended to associate existing security keys with x[.]com. The update does not apply to users who have 2FA via other methods, such as authenticator apps. The guidance also provides steps for enrolling, including navigating Settings and privacy > Security and account access > Security > Two-factor authentication and selecting Security key, then inserting the key and following the on-screen prompts.
